A Variety of Intraocular Lenses to Meet Your Needs
Cataracts cloud the crystalline lens of the eye, obstructing the passage of light and making it difficult to see. Cataract surgery replaces the clouded lens of a cataract affected eye with an artificial lens. These lenses, called intraocular lenses (or IOLs), can not only help patients restore clarify of vision but, now, also provide the ability to properly focus at a range of distances. At our Southside Chicago practice serving patients from Bridgeview, Hinsdale, and throughout Chicago, advanced Crystalens®, ReSTOR®, and ReZoom™ IOLs are provided to restore sight and improve lives. In the past, cataract surgery meant the placement of a monofocal IOL, one that provides clear vision at only one distance — whether near, intermediate, or far. This meant that, after surgery, glasses or contact lenses would be needed. Today, multifocal IOLs, such as those available at our practice, allow cataract patients to achieve clear vision while maintaining or even improving focusing ability.
If you would like to learn more about Crystalens®, ReSTOR®, and ReZoom multifocal intraocular lenses, contact our Southside Chicago practice serving Bridgeview, Hinsdale, and surrounding communities. Our experienced cataract surgeon, Dr. Steven Chander, would be happy to speak with you about your eye care needs.
Intraocular Lenses Provided at Our Southside Chicago Practice
At Primary Eye Care Associates, we are committed to providing the very latest technologies to help our patients correct cataract-affected vision. This is why we provide a selection of today's most advanced intraocular lens products.
The Crystalens® IOL flexes like much like the natural lens of the eye, provide greatly enhanced focusing abilities at a range of distances. The Crystalens® IOL has been found to provide excellent accommodation abilities. Accommodation refers to our ability to focus on objects near and far. Our eyes perform this task by bending and flexing the lens of the eye to focus light as needed. With the help of the eye's ciliary muscles, the Crystalens® IOL is able to bend and flex in much the same way, helping to improve accommodation abilities. This is why, at our Southside Chicago practice, we are proud to offer Crystalens® intraocular lenses to our patients from Bridgeview, Hinsdale, and across the Chicago area.
The ReSTOR® intraocular lens applies technology that has long been used in telescopes, microscopes, and special lighting devices. Like other IOLs, ReSTOR® lenses are used to replace the cataract clouded lens of the eye. Unlike other IOLs, the ReSTOR® lens uses a series of tiered steps to help patients focus at a variety of distances. The ReSTOR® IOL has a thin outer layer and, at the center of the lens, a thicker layer. In between is a series of steps of varying thicknesses, each of which help provide the ability to focus at different distances. This technology helps to not only correct the clouding associated with cataracts, but also many times reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses. The eye care professionals at our Southside Chicago practice serving Bridgeview, Hinsdale, and other areas would be happy to help you determine whether ReSTOR® intraocular lenses are right for you.
The ReZoom™ intraocular lens is many times an excellent treatment option for those suffering from presbyopia, a condition caused by a hardening of the eye's usually flexible lens that results in difficulties focusing on objects up close. Like other IOLs, ReZoom™ is also used for those with cataracts. The ReZoom™ lens incorporates multiple focal points to help patients see objects from far away, to very close up. At our Southside Chicago practice, ReZoom™ intraocular lenses allow our patients visiting us from Bridgeview, Hinsdale, and across Chicago, to correct cataract affected vision, improve focusing ability, and reduce dependence on glasses and contact lenses.
