Reshaping the Way You See

You just woke up from a great night of restful sleep.  But today, as you start your day, you notice something different.  You can actually see WITHOUT your GLASSES or CONTACT LENSES!  AND you did not have LASER EYE SURGERY.  Are you dreaming!?

No! You are experiencing the wonders of NON-SURGERY vision correction with Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT lenses).  Contact lenses worn at night, that gently shape your cornea to correct your nearsightedness and/or astigmatism that gives you the FREEDOM of wearing glasses or day time contact lenses that can dry and irritate your eyes.

Proven results.  FDA approved.

CRT or Orthokeratology or Vision Shaping lenses are specially designed therapeutic contact lens, that gently and temporarily reshape the cornea while you sleep.  The result is great clear vision 24 hours a day-without having to wear contact lenses during the waking hours, no more dryness from over wearing day time contacts or irritation from allergy eyes.

What is CRT or Orthokeratology?

Technologically advanced FDA approved oxygen breathing contact lenses worn at night to non-surgically reshape the clear part of the eye (cornea) to a correct curve that allows you to see throughout the day clearly when you remove the contact lens in the morning after sleeping in them.

Is CRT new?

Corneal reshaping is not new, however CRT lenses with high oxygen breathing materials is fairly new about 20 years.

Is CRT permanent?

No.  This is a temporary effect.  Just like we charge our cell phone at night, these retainer lenses must be put in the eyes every one or two nights to maintain the correct shape of the eye, like a retainer in your mouth after braces; it maintains the proper shape to allow you to see very clearly during the day.  Your vision can reverse to its original state in about 72 hours without wearing the CRT lenses.

Can anyone wear CRT lenses?

At Primary Eye Care Associates, Dr. Steve Chander’s own daughter was fit in the lens at age 8, she is currently 14 and continues to wear the lenses without a notable change in her vision in the past 6 years.  Low to moderate degrees of myopia (nearsightedness) are best recommended for treatment with or without astigmatism.  There is no age restriction, at Primary Eye Care Associates we have patients in their 70’s wearing CRT lenses and as young as 7.

How long does it take to work?

Most our patients can see very well, 20/20 vision the very next day.  Typically it can take about 7-14 days for optimization of vision.

So what do I do to see properly between when I start CRT and when I achieve full treatment?

During this transition time, some patients will wear the CRT lens for part of the day (1-2 hours) or use temporary soft lens in declining powers until best vision is achieved, usually within 3-4 days.

What are the risks involved with wearing CRT lenses at night?  I heard sleeping in contacts is bad for your eyes!

There is always a risk with ANY contact lens wearing.  CRT lenses are made with very high oxygen permeable lens materials allowing a great amount of oxygen to pass through the lens while sleeping.  There are no serious events while wearing an FDA approved CRT lens.  Without proper maintenance polish and cleaning of the lenses, infection may occur.

Can I see with my CRT lenses in the eye?

Yes.  At primary Eye Care Associates we design your lenses to allow you to see while they are in.  20/20 with the contacts in, 20/20 with the contacts out of the eyes.

How often do I get new CRT lenses?

At Primary Eye Care Associates, we recommend twice a year having the CRT lenses polished and professionally cleaned to allow maximum life of the CRT lens.  Wear and tear may lead to deep scratches and or warped lenses that eventually do not perform the retaining part as well.  About 2 years is the average life of CRT lenses in our clinic.  We dispense two pairs of CRT lenses to our new patients and this also allows equal wearing over the course of 2 years.

How do I care for my CRT lenses?

Disinfection daily is mandatory with CRT as is with most contact lenses.  Contact lens peroxide is what is best recommended, as your Primary Eye Care Associates contact lens professional for details and a complimentary travel kit of the best contact lens solutions for your lens care.
